Date Idea 101: Cooking competition

Hihi! It got me a while to actually sit down and pen down this entry because i was totally procrastinating at the bad quality of the pictures we took on that day.

So as the title suggested, the boyfriend and i had a mini cooking competition the other day because we were

1. Tired of going to town and not knowing where to go
2. Broke
3. Wanted to do something special since it was like a 'monthsary' kinda day?

I've seen loads of 'date ideas' articles which included cooking as one idea for couples to try when they want to laze around at home and not be subjected to the horrendous crowd at town over the weekends

So here's a spontaneous-ly done cooking competition (with no judges) and recipes found at the eleventh hour.

I have divided the recipes as well as the pictorial steps (not really that useful actually) for these two dishes that i made (of which i insist that you diedie must look through because i took them painstakingly since my hands are always dirty)

THE PICTURES ARE ALL OF BAD QUALITY.
BEEN WARNED OK

Brocolli with chicken

This dish is actually pretty easy to make and its quite healthy as well?! I know of many friends who are studying overseas, so i guess this is something easy and yet healthy (just look at the amount of brocolli and tomatoes) to whip up when ya'll hungry!

I exchanged the original recipe (chicken breast) for drumstick because i hate chicken breast meat. Yuck

Mixing all the tomatoes and brocolli together in a really big bowl

Overdose of brocolli (apparently) on the chicken. It almost looks like i'm raping the chicken with veggies LOL.

But i think its better to place the brocolli sparingly because i was kinda kiasu and didnt want to waste the brocolli. In the end, the smell was kinda overwhelming and it 'covered' the chicken's original taste.

How it looks like when its cooked! We cooked it for a further 10 mins because we felt that the chicken was kinda 'uncooked' lol.

Ok, it looks very unappetizing but its actually quite nice lah hehe. But i conclude that there are def further improvements to be made to make the dish taste much better!

Pasta with beef

Bought these ingredients from Fairprice and for some dumb reason, they dont have any cheap brocolli. They only have $7 brocolli wtf. I don't need air-flown brocolli ok. I just want some cheap brocolli. =.=

Ok for this dish, the pasta is actually really good. There were a few twerks from the original recipe (such as the spices and condiments) but overall, we stuck to the skeleton of the recipe as given.

Cooked until my hand very tired. LOL. Stir stir stir and SJ kept saying that its not done yet LOL

& when you add the pasta over *^*
LOOKS GOOD? TASTES GOOD TOO OK.

I think it would be good to add some mushroom and egg the next time i cook this dish as well. I mean, simply having tomatoes and beef (minced beef) quite sian leh.

& ta-daa! My end product for the pasta. This was my representative for the competition and hmm, it was good ok. I feel.

SJ's representative (he got more likes than me wtf)

OK I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT HIS PRAWNS ARE A TEENY WEENY BETTER THAN MINE.

OK, ITS ACTUALLY DAMN NICE.
LOL

So this concluded our mini cooking competition with SJ's lemon prawn and my beef pasta + brocolli w/tomatoes chicken!

Not much but enough to provide us a few hours of fun since we went to the supermarket togetheer and picked out the ingredients we needed separately. Loads of laughter during the cooking session itself too!

Definitely a good idea to spend the afternoon away if you don't mind being extremely tired afterwards and having to clean up the kitchen (thanks SJ for cleaning up hehehe)

I've also been using Pinterest for all the recipes of which i am interested to try out next time. You can find me on @itsmejunko if you are interested as well!

Thanks and have a nice almost-mid week! :)
xoxo
