Food Edition // CAFES IN SG - Lady M, D' Good Cafe & Bucktile St

Hi, so i have no idea what to write about because these days i don't take as much pictures as before. It's harder for me to keep churning out new content with this mentality because i don't purposely do something/go somewhere just for the sake on writing about it afterwards.

Similarly, snapchat really made me take lesser pictures as before because its just that handy to record everything down with video instead of images. Nevertheless, i did go to some cafes over the past weeks so here it is!

Lady M @ Orchard Central

I guess this place doesn't need much recommendation given the fact that it's almost always packed during peak hours.

I've had a really bad encounter with them before over at their Marina outlet, and i tried to avoid this place for a while until Yizhen & Cherlyn wanted to go over for desserts. Decided to give it another go and yeah, the prices definitely increased

I'm not saying that the price is not directly correlated with the quality of the cakes (they're good!) but it just seems to me that $9 for a slice of cake (no matter how good) is pretty ... extravagant?

Maybe its just me, but hey i'm an unemployed poor student now so don't judge me! Nevertheless, i do find this place quite relaxing and good for a good afternoon catch-up with your friends if you are a cakes-person! :D

Bucktile St Cafe

I decided to head over to Bucktile St Cafe only because Joey suggested this place. In fact, i have not heard of this place before at all. If you have seen one of those confectioneries which comes in the design of a potted plant, yupp thats right.

This is the place //

Unfortunately, we were unable to try their signature cakes as it was OOS, so we went along with this one - Rainbow cake. I like it though - the flavor is rich and its sweet. (or maybe i was hungry, but either way,,)

The place is equipped with lots of electrical plugs, and is almost always empty (i guess on a weekday afternoon). Joey and i slacked at the place from 2pm - 8pm, to finish up our work as well. They provide complimentary wifi, but it always! breaks! down!

I swear its a subtle signal to guests about not prolonging their stay in the cafe, or otherwise to purchase something else from the counter.

Hahahah, kidding lah. I didn't managed to take any pictures of the cafe's interior but its cozy (though the location is insanely outta the way for people like me who doesn't own a car).

Alternatively, you can check their FB page for directions with public transport! :)

D' Good Cafe

Another famous cafe located at Holland Village, for probably its interior design? To be honest, i feel that this cafe is pretty over-hyped because the food is so-so and not really worth raving about. In fact, i guess the redeeming point about here is that they dont charge GST/service charge (or is it both?) for their food items.

I tend to order Ice cafe latte because its kinda like the 'standard' drink, but till date, only Coasta Coffee's impress me. The rest // not really, not even the ones over at KL which SJ really love.

Pretty ok for a casual day, but it can get crowded during peak hours. The eggs Benedict (reminds me of Prive's salmon w/egg benedict... its so good omg) is really normal but yeah, its one of the cheapest item on the menu so it'll do for me.

Tsukada Nojo Bijin Nabe - 塚田農場 美人鍋 @ westgate

Went to Westgate to try this Japanese restaurant which sees a really long queue over at Plaza Sing each time i'm over there during dinner time! It didn't appeal as much to me at first because it was hotpot and it looks pretty pricey for limited stuffs to eat?

It is $25 per pax for a hotpot set and the minimum order is 2 pax, so the entire bill will come up to around $60 with GST and service charge.

Haha, doesn't look appealing right? Looks like jelly and you have no friggin idea what it is inside. I thought it looks like the oil of the chicken when i first saw it haha!

BUT, OMFG. Its damn nice. I swear. You turn on the fire, these jellies melt and its chicken meat inside which is so. bloody. good. And the soup is omfg asdgkjfhskfhks good.

ITS REALLY THAT GOOD

Very little right? Somemore for two people, like wtf full anot?

MISTAKE.

I was damn friggin full at the end of the hotpot - even Sijun was damn friggin full. I have no idea why we would be this full, but we are full and bloated but we were super satisfied with the meal. The service was excellent, and the assistant manager really took care of us well and attended to every needs. Everyone was smiling too so the entire atmosphere over at the restaurant was a very cheerful and happy one!

A little gift from the manager - we so did not expect this.

Its such a nice gesture and i really love how they do this out of the goodwill from the company!! It was a good drawing, and i think my face is really square heheh wtf. Now i can look at videos and see what type of glasses and hairstyle suits my face.

A sesame paste which the managers says that makes the soup nicer when added! Personally i felt that it doesn't make much difference but it came in such a cute outlook that i just have got to take a picture of it!!

Sijun is out for field camp and only back on wednesday so that means two days of no contact at all. Kinda sad that we are always spending so little time together because of NS, but at the same time, its gonna end soon since he is passing out from both MP and SGT this month!

Gotta hang on and stay positive for both of our sake!!

HAPPY WEEK AHEAD MY DEAR READERS.

Kinoshita Japanese Restaurant @ Westgate

Went to westgate the other day to have a really sumptuous dinner with my family. I didn't go to the 5th level before, so when i saw this restaurant, my mum and i were pretty excited because she had been longing for BBQ food for a while, and its japanese food so im excited. LOL!

The restaurant has a range of japanese dishes and serve both Hotpot and BBQ. We ordered the set which comes with BBQ + Hotpot at around $35++ (chicken) and $38++ (seafood) each for a pax, and minimum order is 2pax. There is a choice of black pepper pork, chicken, beef and seafood, so we had chicken and seafood.

The set comes with appetizer of salmon and chawanmushi - really good. It had been so long since i lasted raw salmon sashimi i almost forgot how it feels like to have them dissolve in your mouth.

We ordered their fried chicken because it looks good and is one of the recommended dish in the restaurant. It's $5+ for 3 pieces.

My dad loves beef and chicken, so we ordered the ala carte for the BBQ and the meat is
absolutely
amazingly
delicious.

Its a pretty small portion and comes at around $13+ per dish, but its soooo nice. Its like no matter how you cook it, it turns out grea hahah wtf.

This is the seafood + chicken set for the BBQ. Not a lot actually :/

Cook cook cook!

Next, we have the hotpot served and it's this humongous wok of goodness with salmon and chicken littered around the mountain of beansprout, onions, garlic and etc.

There's a lot and a lot of beansprout, and to be honest, i thought it's not that worth for a second try. Sure, trying it for at least once is a good experience, but basically the hotpot consists of mainly beansprouts and more beansprouts so i felt that its really not that great.

I think it would be excellent for girls having a diet though, but i am not so :/

The set also comes with ramen/porridge (each set), but we heard wrongly and drank the hotpot broth so we skipped the porridge and they gave us a plate of sliced fruits instead.

Overall, i think i would go back again if i am feeling extremely extravagant that day because for the portion of food, its pretty expensive to me. The service is amazing though because you have Japanese waiters serving you and they bring their renowned service quality from Japan to Singapore and you just feel WOAH, THAT'S DEFINITELY NOT A SINGAPOREAN.

Gelato was having a 1-for-1 cone promotion so i bought one for myself and one for my sister! She was so happy hahahaha.

& thats all for the food adventureeeee.
No pictures because i look really ugly that day LAWL

The Prata House

First time going to The Prata House over at Upper Thomson! I know that they have pretty much lots of good food over there, and its really busy and crowded for a Friday night ('cause its my first time there!). YES, my first time having supper at Upp. Thomson road, haha sua gu much. Cannot blame me lah, its so far from my house sia. (Stays at west side?!)

But the atmosphere is good, like woah! So bustling and crowded and people weaving around like threads. HAHA, ok but its a nice place - the prata house that is. It was a sudden craving on my part, so i just went along with it when SJ suggested that place.

I ordered the Egg prata and the sausage cheese one! They are pretty crispy and soft, and their fish curry is nice!! Yeah, looking at these prata makes me drool a little now.

So many people, so little seats.
We have to scour the place to look for seats, but the atmosphere is there lah!

Sijun really became tanned after going into NS.
And we both have such heavy eye-bags under our eyes gosh. But now that exams are over, i had been catching up on my sleep and sleeping till late into the afternoon HAHAHA

The other day i took my sister's playdoh and played around with it because it was in the format of Dim Sum and its so cute LOL.

Does it look like buns? HAHA, Xinni told me that it looks like boobs 8'D

I knew that i never had the flair of an artist.

Food Food Food

I was checking my computer pictures folder when i realized that i still have food pictures inside my "unsorted" folder which meant that i hasn't blogged about it :>

Poulet @ Watergate

Appetizer - Poached egg with mushrooms.

Pretty good! & even though its sibeh disgusting when you mix the mushrooms with the egg, its simply simply deliciousssss <3

Main - Whole chicken

Tried the new one with some lemon or what. WHOLE CHICKEN <3
I really love eating chickens haha, too nice.

Main - Duck leg

Not as recommended because its not that nice! I think the chicken is better, and they are famed for that right? :)

Its actually pretty pricey, like $30 per pax :(
But i wanted to try it for like superrr long so im super glad that i get to try it heh.
Gonna keep the next Poulet meal to my splurge 8D

SPR MRKT

Truffle Fries

I like their truffle fries, its pretty good! Cubie was recommending this to me because her friends recommended this to her HAHA. She says that PS Cafe has nicer ones, so im gonna go there and try their truffles fries on Thursday (Free flow) //

Eggs Benedict

Pretty normal but the egg is good :)

All in all the service is simply superb and the environment/atmosphere is really good. Lots of working professionals patronize the cafe after-work so it still gives off a very "working" vibe. But not bad lah, even though the cafe is a tad small.

Gold Thai Food

Tom Yum Seafood Soup

Super, super love this soup. Just looking at the picture now makes me have a craving for it. & its only $6! Cheap or what?! Saw the review on Burpple and i was having an intense craving for thailand food some time ago. Decided to hop over there after shopping and its really nice.

Pineapple rice

Kinda disappointing because i thought that it would be good.
I still feel that Bangkok Jam's is nicer!

We ordered another chicken wrapped in pandan leaves too and even though the chicken was soft inside, it feels a little too heard on the outer layer. Nevertheless, the entire meal was only $25 and that included two drinks which was around $4 already. No gst and no service charge, very good place for thailand food!!

Krispy Kreme

Its my first time trying it even though the hype was long gone. I feel so outdated hahahah!

Ordered a chocolate orea and blueberry cheese and its so so good. The donut isnt like those stupid empty ones with 80% air and 10% sugar sprinkled on it. You can really bite and eat donuts. But even so, not a huge fan of sweet things except for bubble tea so yeap, its a good snack though!!

Camwhor-ing like some foreigners in the middle of the pathway LOL.

& i wore my new usagi headband because the other day, i saw a girl wearing it and she pulled it off so well. I don't think i can pull it off that well though :(

So Pho

I have no idea what all these are called except that the last dish is #26 and the first one was #2b LOL. Its Vietnamese food and i really dun know what it is called, pronounced or yeah.

#2b is gooddddd. The sauce is goooddddd. Sijun you awesome boy, you know your food. We chose the second picture and #26 because Sijun dared me to ask the waiter to ask if we should eat here or not. So i asked. & the waiter recommended us and didnt answer my question so i asked again if he ate here before and he recommended #26 which is not bad.

HAHA, and when he came over after the meal and asked me if its good, i say yah yeah not bad and this Sijun go and sit there awkward and make me awkward also. & then he burst out laughing so i was even more awkward =.= LOL!

Ok, i can finally clear all these pictures from my phone because i dont like to have such a messy folder <.<

Start of another busy week

Its Wednesday and i am back to being super busy. I skipped school on Monday because i was feeling weak from all the things i had to do. & i almost had a mental breakdown because i have to handle

  • Projects x 4
  • Work
  • Spending time with SJ
  • Cosplay props for this Saturday

It might probability look little to you, but imagine doing one part of the project (which i usually need about 4 hours with procrastination and talking and resting), work stuffs which consists of morning calls at 10am (and unable to sleep back when i slept at 4am) and to-and-fro visit to make sure that everything is in order, and constant mistakes on my side which resulted in more phone calls and emails.

I need to buy and make Athena's cinch-er and neck armour for this saturday and i have a week to deal with all these, plus spending time with Sijun and yes, tuition twice a week.

I almost broke down when i got a phone call at 10pm in the midst of a movie with SJ and i had to rushed down and edit everything again (yes, scolding from my dad and mum for making so much mistakes).

I don't know what you think is in the life of a private university student, but its fucking busy when it gets fucking busy. & fuck you if you think that only local university students have it tough. You don't know the shit we have to juggle.

Had kit kats and oh gosh it made my night so so so much better. & i am super grateful to Sijun because he helped me with my projects even though it was not his part to do, and attended lectures with me (6 hours of droning and slides imagine that). I love you so much.

Ok, so for the last two days of his break we didn't really do much as well. I was busy and he was being really understanding. We went to the doctor on Monday because i had been feeling nauseous ever since i hit my hair from the fainting. The doctor told me that i probably can only know whats up IF I FAINT AGAIN. LOL WTF.

Nothing much except that we had standing sushi bar on Tuesday and took advantage of the 50% all sushi, sashimi and housepour! The bill came up to around $80 with GST for both of us, so we ordered $160 worth of food.

THE 50% IS SUPER WORTH LAH GUYS.

All the prices i stated are the original price

Beer at $9 each

Platter at $38

Salmon sashimi (5 slices) at $12 each
Tuna sashimi (5 slices) at $12 each

Salmon roll (rockstar rolls) at $16.90
Wagyu beef at $12

We had one more of the salmon sampler which was $20, but no pictures because i was lazy haha

All the food really damn good. & i was sending all these pictures to the whatsapp group guys and then before we know it, we were sending couple pics to one another.
HAHAHAH DAMN FUNNY. LOVE 'EM SO MUCH.

Started on my props. I hope it would turns out well because i NEED it to turn out well.

Making these >>

First cosplay shoot of 2014.
I HOPE EVERYTHING GOES WELL

5 days break

Starting from last thursday was Sijun's 5 days break and i'm glad that we finally have some time to spend together because army had been taking a real toll on our relationship for the past one month. Re-visiting some of the places that i went to,,

Sijun accompanied me to school (thanks darling!) and went through a whole 6 hours lecture with me, feeling bored out at the same time.  Actually i have no idea if he is bored out or not because he did understand the theories the lecturer was talking about BETTER than me, and explained to me the logic behind it.

Now THATS awkward.

But thanks dear still, for accompanying me to school! HAHA, i know you are damn bored lah. Went to Zouk afterwards because roomie wanted to party and relieve the stress from work hahaha! Suddenly glad that i exchanged for this shift dress with another dress on Carousell because i really like this one!

Deciding that my face is too fat and i've gotta "push" my stupid neck back so that my face looks better =0=

Fat face smile. 8D

With the rommie whilst waiting for a taxi.

ZOUK WAS FRIGGING CROWDED THAT DAY

Super happening night because firstly, our friend got into a quarrel/fight and it's my first time like having such a thing to happen to me (in a way) so i find it pretty interesting and like a new experience haha! & some of them got real high and these three guys came to dance with roomie and me whilst we lost Sijun and Kwanter and it was pretty awkwardz for me in a sense <.<

At least for me lah ahhaha.

Late meeting on Saturday because Sijun and i were both super tired from last night. Managed to complete some project parts too so it was a productive day after all!

Spotted this over at Takashimaya when we were around Town. Its like a million kg challenge and for people who signed up and overweight to lose weight and win prizes in a sense. I was a little apprehensive when i knew i had to take my weight because it had been months since i last took it.

WELL I'M GLAD I DIDN'T HAD TO BURN THE WEIGHING MACHINE /O/

Decided to try Saveur afterwards at Far East Plaza (newspaper articles plastered over walls helpssss) and its pretty good to be honest.

This duck confetti was good, but a tad salty to my liking. & the potato smashed made me really full because .. its potatoes.

HAHAHA my fat face. 8'D

Seeing all these bloggers getting sponsorship for plastic surgery is making me super jealous and insecure because they so pretty liao still plastic what sai sia?! <.<

Raise level in SG only =.=

& went to book cafe over at Clarke Quay today with Joey and Sijun! Just got to take pictures whilst waiting for the food because its 1.cafe , 2. we are girls and 3. what else can we do?!

Ordered their fries which turns out to be nice. Iced mocha is pretty nice too heh.

Poor Sijun sleeping because he was too bored with waiting around and doing nothing. It was a study date for Joey and me actually, but i was spending so little time with SJ that i decided to ask him along.

Just Joey sending me e-mails with pictures HAHA.
Inception sia, pictures within a picture 8'D

Back home after a whole day of cafe and study and SJ being bored LAWL

I know i was being really emotional some days back and thought a lot and a lot about this whole relationship in general. Being there with you matters so much to me. School's busy, clash in timings and just everything in general.

Projects, Projects, Projects.

I just want to say that i am soooooo glad that you went to Military Police because it does signify more time for us right? & spending these days with you made me realized how much i missed you and how much *this* means to me - you being there to share my joys and pains and angst for projects and school and well, lectures.

Love ya.

x

Thanks for making me fall in love with you all over again baby.
